About Hope for Tomorrow
SVCM’s Hope for Tomorrow ministry is a transformational housing program for single mothers and their children who are currently experiencing or at risk of homelessness. At our campus in Black Mountain, we offer these vulnerable families safe, affordable, transitional housing and intensive support services for up to 18 months. We’re currently able to accommodate mothers accompanied by up to two children ages 0-19.
At Hope for Tomorrow, our goal is to support participating moms while they build the skills and resources necessary to attain permanent housing, adequate income, and a savings plan - while growing their sense of self-worth and well-being. Participants have access to many services including: case management, career counseling, financial planning, educational workshops, child enrichment, mental health counseling, basic medical care and social activities. During their residency, mothers are also invited to take advantage of our savings match plan. Thanks to a generous grant, up to $2,000 that they save will be matched dollar-for-dollar - for a potential total value of $4,000.
At SVCM, the heart of all our services is to affirm every person’s inherent dignity and worth.
The History and Vision of Hope for Tomorrow
"To inspire and build hope for the future of our valley children and their mothers."
Through the generosity of a local family, land was donated to SVCM, allowing us the opportunity to plan and construct housing for mothers and their children experiencing housing insecurity. Eight 1-bedroom apartments, and two 2-bedroom apartments have been built to house children and their mothers.
This ongoing program will have rotating clients each year. We work closely with Buncombe County Schools Homeless Liaison to ensure that a viable partnership is developed with long-term strategies to address any problems. One of the other concerns in our area is a lack of affordable housing. Our clients receive assistance in financial management so they are be able to save money and learn to budget by the completion of the program in order to be successful in finding long-term suitable housing. This is ongoing, long term program and SVCM relies on generous partnerships with our local churches, civic organizations, and individual donors. We hope the impact of this program will assist families for generations to come.
